“…Such a classification, however, could be very difficult, especially for the type IV, involving mainly the T lymphocytes, because the cells obtained by punc ture are not numerous enough and in poor condition. Type I, where an IgE antibody combines with mast cells to allow the release of histamine and related substances, seemed unlikely in uveitis until an elevation of IgE was found by Rahi et al [1976] in the serum, and a questionable produc tion of the same in the eye itself by Hartmann et al [1977] in cases of uveitis. Finally, uveitis might involve one of the types II or III, although the role of various immunoglobulins and complement factors in that dis ease is not yet clear.…”
