Impact of a soy drink on climacteric symptoms: an open-label, crossover, randomized clinical trial

Abstract: Objectives: The objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of a soy drink with a high concentration of isoflavones (ViveSoy®) on climacteric symptoms. Methods: An open-label, controlled, crossover clinical trial was conducted in 147 peri- and postmenopausal women. Eligible women were recruited from 13 Spanish health centers and randomly assigned to one of the two sequence groups (control or ViveSoy®, 500 mL per day, 15 g of protein and 50 mg of isoflavones). Each intervention phase lasted for 12 weeks … Show more

“…This observation was not replicated in the high-dose group, possibly due to the sample size, and thus, further studies are required to confirm these findings. Our findings in the medium group are in agreement with an open-label crossover study that demonstrated a commercial soy drink (ViveSoy ® ), providing ~ 50 mg IFs per day for 12 weeks, improved climacteric symptoms including hot flushes in peri/post-menopausal women [69]. Previous research on the effects of soy foods on menopausal symptoms is limited [70] and our findings warrant further study in this area.…”

“…The results indicated that under the influence of yoga, MRS symptoms in three domains (somato-vegetative, psychological and uro-genital) were significantly reduced, and, in addition, menopausal symptoms improved considerably according to the MENQOL (Vora, Dangi, 2014). The aim of a Spanish randomized, open and controlled study in 2012 conducted using the MRS among 147 women was to assess the effects of a soya drink, with increased content of isoflavones, on menopausal complaints of women (Tranche et al, 2016). An improvement in both somatic and urogenital symptoms, and an improvement in quality of life of women pre-and post-menopause (Tranche et al, 2016) were indicated.…”

“…En un reciente ensayo clínico abierto, aleatorizado, cruzado y controlado, llevado a cabo por Tranché et al (17) en 90 mujeres peri y postmenopáusicas, se evidenció que la bebida de soja, ingerida durante 12 semanas, tenía un efecto significativo sobre los síntomas climatéricos (20,4%), y se redujeron en un 21,3% los síntomas y problemas urogenitales, así mejoró un 18% la calidad de vida relacionada con la salud.…”
