Implementation of a V/f Controlled Variable Speed Induction Motor Drive

Abstract: DSP implementation of speed control of three phase induction motor drive is presented in this paper. A closed loop speed control has been achieved using constant V/f technique which is a simple scalar control method used to control the magnitude of the control quantities. In this study, a fourth order polynomial drived from V/f curve is constructed instead of using look up table which takes much time for determination of voltage from frequency value. A PI controller is used in speed control.  dSPACE DS-1103 co… Show more

“…However, changing the power supply frequency became an easy and simple task since the introduction of the power electronic devices. Hence, voltage with required frequency can be obtained by a power electronic device known as inverter, the output voltage of the inverter may have variable or fix amplitude and frequencybased on switching used method [18].…”

“…Figure 7 shows the major components of a PWM-based VFD: non-controlled three-phase rectifier, DC bus/filter, and the three-phase inverter with its control unit. The VFD varies the speed of the induction motor based on v/f control to keep the torque constant [24]. Figure 8 presents the variation of the stator voltage of IM versus frequency.…”

“…A representative example of an open-loop control method is V/f control. This method is particularly advantageous as it significantly reduces implementation costs because it does not necessitate the use of sensors and high-performance MCUs [20][21][22][23][24]. This makes V/f control a cost-effective solution for controlling induction motors.…”
