“…Replacement of a part of the cocoa butter by pumpkin seed oil markedly diminished the induction of circulating risk factors (cholesterol, triglycerides, SAA, sVCAM-1), which is in line with the short-term effects of other pumpkin seed oil preparations tested in humans and animals [ 12 , 14 , 15 ]. As these studies employed different pumpkin seed oil preparations at different doses and treatment regimens (in capsules or by oral gavage, as an addition to the regular diet), they provide evidence for a general health benefit of pumpkin seed oil, independent of how it is prepared and administered (i.e.…”

“…These results are in agreement with previous study, which showed that TC, TGs, HDL-c, and LDL-c were higher in PSO fed rats (Makni et al, 2008; Gossell-Williams et al, 2011). A significant increase was observed by the supplementation of oxidized pumpkin seed oil, and its effects were minimized by co-administration.…”

“…A significant increase was observed by the supplementation of oxidized pumpkin seed oil, and its effects were minimized by co-administration. In humans, HDL-c levels were improved by supplementation of PSO (Gossell-Williams et al, 2011). This suggests that PSO is beneficial for improving the lipid profile against several stresses such as oxidative stress produced by oxidized lipids.…”

“…Pumpkin is a monoecious plant, which produces nectar from its actinomorphic flowers [ 1 ]. Several therapeutic activities like antioxidant [ 2 ], hepatoprotective [ 3 ], hypolipidaemic [ 3 ], antidiabetic [ 4 ], wound healing [ 5 ], anti-inflammatory [ 6 ], antibacterial [ 7 ], suppressing stimulated mononuclear cells [ 8 ], antihypertensive [ 9 ], antiarthritis [ 10 ], antidepressant activity [ 11 ], anticancer [ 12 ], antihyperlipidaemic [ 13 ], and anticataract [ 14 ] have been reported. Interestingly, the seeds of pumpkin have been reported to show cytotoxic activity in specific cancer cell lines in vitro [ 12 ].…”
