In vitro scolicidal effect of Satureja khuzistanica (Jamzad) essential oil

Abstract: The essential oil of S. khuzistanica is rich in carvacrol and may be used as a natural scolicidal agent.

“…The chemical composition of essential oil depends on chemotype, leaf and flower colours, aroma and origin of plants (Sajjadi 2006). In the chemical composition of essential oils we found that carvacrol (81.1%) and thymol (72.3%) were the main products of S. khuzistanica and T. daenensis, respectively; Sajjadi and Khatamsaz (2003) also found thymol (73.9%) in T. daenensis and Moazeni et al (2012) found that carvacrol (94.9%) was the major compound of S. khuzistanica. According to Zini et al (2011) carvone (29%) was the major constituent of M. spicata and Merchan Arenas et al (2011) reported that eugenol (60.5%) was the most important constituent, which is the same as our finding with different percentage.…”
