Individual and work-related predictors of work outcomes related to sustainable employment among male shift and day workers

Abstract: To our knowledge, this is the first study examining which individual and work-related characteristics predict work outcomes related to sustainable employment among shift and day workers separately. The study adds to the knowledge of organizations, social partners, and governments to help ageing worker populations stay at work in a healthy, productive, and sustainable way.Affiliation:

“…As an additional example, fatigue and the subsequent need for recovery were included as an indicator of individual SE in the quasi-experimental trial conducted by Koolhaas et al (2015) to assess the effectiveness of a problem-solving intervention among workers from medical University departments. Similarly, in a dynamic cohort study of van de Ven et al (2014), fatigue was reported as an individual characteristic able to predict SE work outcomes among male shift and day workers.…”

“…Similarly, objective data on sickness absence were included as an indicator of the health SE dimension. This information was based on the absence percentage reported during a specific time lag or the incidence of long sickness absences (i.e., equal to or longer than six weeks) as reported by employees (van de Ven et al, 2014). Additionally, research also used organizations' absenteeism reports covering the frequency and duration of absence episodes for each employee (Peters et al, 2015).…”

Yapılan çalışmalar, vardiyalı çalışma biçiminin, bireylerin sağlığı ve iyilik halini de olumsuz etkilediğini göstermektedir 2,5,6 . Bireylerin uzun süre vardiyalı çalışarak aşırı iş yüküne maruz kalmaları, yorgunluk, uyku bozukluğu ve aktivite dengelerinin bozulmasına neden olacak ve bireyin üzerindeki stres artacaktır [7][8][9] .…”

“…Sustainable employment means that, throughout their working life, employees continually have the feasible possibilities and conditions to (continue to) perform their current and future work whilst retaining their health and well-being (Van der Klink, 2010;Van der Klink et al, 2016). This 2 implies a work context that enables them to do so as well as the attitude and motivation necessary to realistically utilise these possibilities (Van de Ven et al, 2014).…”
