Influence of disordered porous media on the anomalous properties of a simple water model

Abstract: The thermodynamic, dynamic, and structural behavior of a water-like system confined in a matrix is analyzed for increasing confining geometries. The liquid is modeled by a two-dimensional associating lattice gas model that exhibits density and diffusion anomalies, similar to the anomalies present in liquid water. The matrix is a triangular lattice in which fixed obstacles impose restrictions to the occupation of the particles. We show that obstacles shorten all lines, including the phase coexistence, the criti… Show more

“…Variants of the ALG model have been investigated, among them, three-dimensional (3D) [11][12][13] and symmetric versions 14,15 . The 3D model 11,12 is defined on a bodycentered cubic lattice in which each molecule possesses four bonding, and four inert arms.…”

“…1(b). Later MC simulations 35 supported the phase behavior of Fig. 1(c), with two coexistence lines (DF-LDL and LDL-HDL) ending at two tricritical points (tc 1 and tc 2 ), which are linked by a critical DF-LDL line.…”

“…We study the symmetric version of the Henriques and Barbosa (H&B) 21 associating lattice gas (ALG) model, investigated in Refs. 22,34,35,41 . The model is defined on the triangular lattice (coordination number z = 6), where each site i can be either empty (σ i = 0) or occupied by a single molecule (σ i = 1).…”
