The present investigation reported the controlled synthesis of Cd 0.9 Zn 0.1 S and Cd 0.89 Zn 0.1 Ni 0.01 S nanostructures by simple chemical co-precipitation route. The XRD analysis confirmed the cubic structure of CdS on Zn doped CdS and Zn, Ni dual doped CdS without any secondary/impurity phases and no alteration in CdS cubic phase was noticed by Zn/Ni addition. The shrinkage of crystallite size from 69 to 43 Å and the variation in lattice constants and micro-strain were described by the addition of Ni and the defects associated with Ni 2+ ions. Microstructural and optical studies of the prepared films were carried out using scanning electron microscope (SEM), UV-visible spectrometer and photoluminescence (PL) spectra. The enhanced optical absorbance in the visible wavelength and the reduced energy gap by Ni substitution showed that Cd 0.89 Zn 0.1 Ni 0.01 S nanostructures are useful to improve the efficiency of opto-electronic devices. The functional groups of Cd-S/Zn-Cd-S/Zn/Ni-Cd-S and their chemical bonding were verified by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) studies. The elevated visible PL emissions such as blue and green emissions by Ni addition was explained by decreasing of crystallite size and generation of more defects. Zn, Ni dual doped CdS nanostructures are identified as the probable an efficient photo-catalyst for the degradation of methylene blue dye. The liberation of more charge carriers, better visible absorbance, improved surface to volume ratio and the creation of more defects are accountable for the current photo-catalytic activity in Zn/Ni doped CdS which exhibited better photo-catalytic stability after sex cycling process. The better bacterial killing ability is noticed in Ni doped Cd 0.9 Zn 0.1 S nanostructure which is due to the collective effect of lower particle/grain size and also higher ROS producing capacity.

Because of its fundamental characteristics, including bioactivity, biodegradability, and nontoxicity, bioactive glasses (BGs) become among the most impressive materials in the area of biomedical applications. It is primarily utilized in the applications of dermal fillers, orthopedic implants, and pharmaceutical delivery systems. Here in this study, simple and continuous methods were employed to produce hollow spherical bioactive glasses (HSBGs) microspheres. Using a spray pyrolysis method, solid and hollow spherical particles were successfully synthesized, and the particle formation mechanism was also discussed in detail. Surface and inner morphologies of synthesized bioactive glass (BG) powders were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), respectively. BET was employed to measure the pore volume as well as specific surface area for pure BG and BG-derived-PEG powders; all p values are below 0.05, demonstrating noticeable distinction among both forms of synthesized powders. Using energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), the constituent components of prepared samples were assessed. In addition, by immersing samples in simulated bodily fluid (SBF) for 12 hr, in vitro bioactivity was tested by SEM. The viability of cells for both BG specimens was evaluated at various extraction concentrations by MTT assay (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenylte-trazolium bromide) for 72 hr. Relying on the Ca/P ratio obtained from SEM-EDS, HSBGs possessed higher hydroxyapatite-forming capacity than solid bioactive glasses (SBGs). In addition, the cell viability of both specimens showed that at all extraction concentrations, they pass the standard biocompatibility levels. Therefore, the HSBGs have better biocompatibility and in vitro bioactivity; hence they are promising for future tissue-engineering development.

Aim:To compare the odontogenic differentiation potential of a composite scaffold (CSHA) comprising of nano-hydroxyapatite (nHAp) and carboxymethyl chitosan (CMC) with Biodentine on human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs).Methodology: A CSHA scaffold was prepared through an ultrasonication route by adding nHAp and CMC (1:5 w/w) in water medium followed by freeze-drying.Physicochemical characterization was achieved using scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. In-vitro bioactivity and pH assessments were done by soaking in simulated body fluid (SBF) for 28 days. The angiogenic and odontogenic differentiation abilities were assessed by expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and Dentine sialophosphoprotein (DSPP) markers on cultured hDPSCs by flow cytometry and RT-qPCR at 7, 14 and 21 days. Cell viability/proliferation and biomineralization abilities of CSHA were compared with Biodentine by MTT assay, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, Alizarin Red Staining (ARS) and osteopontin (OPN) expression on hDPSCs following 7 and 14 days. Data were statistically analysed with Kruskal Wallis and Friedman tests as well as one way anova followed by appropriate post hoc tests (p < .05). Results:Characterization experiments revealed a porous microstructure of CSHA with pore diameter ranging between 60 and 200 μm and 1.67 Ca/P molar ratio along with the characteristic functional groups of both HAp and CMC. CSHA displayed bioactivity in SBF by forming apatite-like crystals and maintained a consistent pH value of 7.70 during 28 days' in vitro studies. CSHA significantly upregulated VEGF and DSPP levels on hDPSCs on day 21 compared with day 7 (p < .05). Further, CSHA supported cell viability/proliferation over 14 days like Biodentine with no statistical differences (p > .05). However, CSHA exhibited increased ALP and ARS activity with an intense OPN staining compared with Biodentine after 14 days (p < .05).
