Influence of IL-6, TNF-α and hs-CRP on Insulin Sensitivity in Patients after Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy or Open Hernia Repair

Abstract: SummaryBackgroundThe aim of this study was to investigate the influence of IL-6, TNF-α and hs-CRP on insulin sensitivity during postoperative follow-up in patients with laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) or open hernia repair (OHR).Methods65 patients were studied: after laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC; n=40) or open hernia repair (OHR; n=25). Glucose, insulin, hs-CRP, IL-6 and TNF-a were determined at day 0 (before the operation) and at days 1, 3 and 7 (after the operation).ResultsThere were no difference betw… Show more

“…In particular, intra‐individual variability in insulin requirements and its association with CRP levels remains unclear. Although the postoperative correlation between CRP levels and insulin resistance was evaluated in a cohort study, intra‐individual variability was not considered.…”

“…At the same time, TNF-α can promote the release of a variety of inflammatory mediators and further expand the inflammatory response, thereby aggravating lung tissue damage [27,28]. TNF-α can also activate the blood coagulation system and complement system, so that the inflammation "cascades expansion" and spreads in the lung tissue [25,28,29]. IL-10 is an anti-inflammatory mediator, and its decrease indicates increased expression of inflammation [30,31].…”

“…Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) is an effective treatment for gallbladder stones and cholecystitis. Although LC is a minimally invasive surgery with less trauma, it is also accompanied with stress response and postoperative IR [ 7 ]. POC has been proved to reduce IR in most types of surgery [ 8 , 9 ], however the effect of POC on LC remains controversial [ 10 , 11 ].…”
