“…The caries lesion process negatively affects the physical and mechanical properties of the dentin. During dentin demineralization, the hydroxyapatite is solubilized by the organic acids from the cariogenic bacteria, resulting in the dissolution of mineral crystals, a reduction in the mineral content, an increase in the porosity, and a decrease in the microhardness of the tissue [ 63 , 64 ]. Moreover, the literature reports that the microhardness of caries-affected dentins ranges from 25 to 40 KHN [ 65 ].…”

“…CHX inhibits the catalytic activation of MMPs by separating calcium and zinc ions by cationic chelation and inactivates MMP-2, MMP-8, and MMP-9 58,59) . Some studies reported that CHX effectively maintained the bond strength values 27,34,35,60) , whereas others reported that CHX did not affect or negatively affected the bond strength before and after aging 18,26,[61][62][63] . The results of this study showed that CHX did not affect the bonding strength and nanoleakage of both adhesive agents, regardless of etching mode.…”

“…The samples in each group were assigned to five subgroups, a control group (CG) and four MMP inhibitor groups (BAC, BB94, CHX, and EGCG) (n=12). MMP inhibitors were prepared as indicated in previous studies 18,19,23,34,35) . The concentrations and application methods of MMP inhibitors are given in Table 2.…”

“…Moreover, at the transcriptional and enzymatic levels, various cariogenic virulence factors of S. mutans was reduced, which put down acidogenicity and compromised stress tolerance (especially acid tolerance) (Xu, Zhou, & Wu, 2011). Toward the influence of dentin, Oliveira‐Reis's experiment shows that EGCG can reduce the expression of MMPs and keep the maintenance of collagen stability (Oliveira‐Reis et al, 2019). In addition, EGCG is considered to have potential in improving the microbial community and immune system after interaction with L. salivarius WB21 against S. mutans (Higuchi et al, 2019).…”
