Influence of Resveratrol on Oxidation Processes and Lipid Phase Characteristics in Damaged Somatic Nerves

Abstract: It has been shown that the intensification of oxidative processes is observed when somatic nerves of rats are damaged. Accumulation of malondialdehyde occurs, and the phase properties of the lipid bilayer change, especially in the distal part of the nerve. Under the same conditions, there are multidirectional changes in the activity of antioxidant enzymes, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity decreases, and catalase (CAT) activity increases. Under the action of resveratrol, there is a decrease in the number of … Show more

“…RSV is able to scavenge free radicals (including reactive oxygen species/reactive nitrogen species (ROS/RNS)) that damage vital molecules in cells due to oxidative stress and enhances cellular antioxidant defense [ 61 , 62 ]. RSV increases antioxidant defense through the induction of antioxidant enzymes synthesis including GPX, SOD, glutathione S-transferase, and declining lipid peroxidation by increasing GSH content that include sulfhydryl group which performs as a scavenger [ 46 , 63 , 64 ]. .Some research has proved that RSV exerts anti-inflammatory effects by the suppression of IL-1 and IL-6, reduction of the expression and activity of COX-2, and inhibition of TNF, histamine, and PG synthesis which play an important role to commence inflammation [ 65 , 66 ].…”

“…It is also known from literature sources that the membrane microviscosity depends on the content of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids. Aliphatic residues of unsaturated fatty acids have so-called "fractures" that prevent the molecules in the membrane from too tightly packing, which makes the membrane looser and more " uid", and leads to a decrease in the red blood cell survival and an increase in the number of damaged, aging cells [14,15].…”
