Influence of UV filters on the texture profile and efficacy of a cosmetic formulation

Abstract: The presence of sunscreens had a negative influence on immediate skin hydration and TEWL. On the other hand, it positively influenced parameters related to the physical properties of the multifunctional formulation and skin microrelief. Thus, we conclude that the influence of UV filters on the development of cosmetic formulations is an important factor to be considered because it can have either positive or negative effect on the efficacy of the product.

“…EP is a mixture of esters formed by the reaction of 2-ethylhexyl alcohol with palmitic acid. It is an important nontoxic raw material typically used as a skin conditioning agent and emollient in cosmetics [24,25] ; however, there is no report of its application in the preparation of MEs. EP could be used to prepare low skin-irritating risk organogels [26] .…”

“…An emulsion that consists of a mixture of humectants, oils, lipids and others that are essential to maintain skin hydration and smoothness as humectants attract and hold water in the skin and emollients (oils and lipids) occlude and hydrate , and these ingredients are not present on the gel. The improvement touch sensation on gel formulations can be related to the film formation, creating a three‐dimensional network when in contact to the skin, protecting it and improving its texture . Furthermore, the improvement in the white residue in the gel formulations could be related to a better dispersion of the active ingredient in a gel, due to its properties and higher content of water .…”
