Inhibition of endogenous glucose production accounts for hypoglycemic effect of Spergularia purpurea in streptozotocin mice

“…Another possible action site for both extracts to exert there hypoglycemic effect is in the gastrointestinal tract; the fiber of plants may also interfere with carbohydrate absorption; thus affecting blood glucose, by slowing the digestion of food and decreasing the rate of carbohydrate absorption and clearing the postprandial glucose load [27].
