Innovation in airport design

Abstract: Abstract. This article discusses the issue of innovation in airport design which is supported by aviation project management. This is why the decision making process on innovation in an airport's design should correlate with future perspectives in aviation. This process influences a decrease in time and money lost during the period of leading an aviation project. A good result is obtained through selected essential information and analysis of the airport management process in order to achieve efficiency in air… Show more

“…Airport design itself is a difficult and complex process, which includes several stages such as planning and constructing (De Neufville & Odoni, 2003). The importance of innovations on airport design was found to be considerable as innovative facilities provide smooth service processes both for service providers and passengers with a great impact on efficiency (Medvedev et al, 2017). Consequently, the most frequently mentioned field of innovation after the general case was design studies with a total of 36 of papers (see Figure 4).…”

“…The methodology of airport design starts from defining of the mission of the airport including challenges (Medvedev et al 2017). Decision about the aircraft size for which the airport is planned will be made, pursuant to (1) the mission of the airport and (2) the trends in the development of airlines' fleets.…”

“…Information technology and e-services play a key role in service innovation in airports as illustrated by Malagas et al (2013) where they examined a case study on the impact of IT migration in a state-owned airline. Moreover, airport design is correlated with service innovation as addressed by Medvedev et al (2017) where they showed that airport management processes influence efficiency in aircraft operation, safety of aircraft and security of passengers. The concept of Multi-Airport Systems propose a set of airports to absorb traffic congestion (Bonnefoy et al, 2010).…”
