Integrated risk management: a Petrobras application in offshore well construction safety to minimize critical emergency disconnections

Abstract: In order to avoid mistakes and to save a great deal of time in analysis, an innovative methodology was developed that can analyze the well operations and rig characteristics involved to define the best emergency disconnect sequence (EDS) available. A solution was developed based on the characteristics of the rigs and blowout preventers (BOPs), and six variables were considered that directly affect the choice of EDS. All possible combinations of 64 scenarios were analyzed, and the priority of choice of the EDS … Show more

“…Complexity grows massively if more than a single role is involved, as activities now need to be coordinated which requires effective collaboration (Epsis, 2021) Since the turn of the millennium, most major oil companies and global operating vendor/service companies have increasingly addressed oil exploration and operation enabled by information and communication technology as their future way of doing business. Integrated Operations (IO) is a concept used to describe this new way of doing business (de Campos Lima, Aranha, de Castro, Lima, Hougaz & de Souza Terra, 2018;Rosendal & Hepso, 2013).…”

“…Chen et al (2017) [6] proposed a dynamic evaluation method for emergency response to rainstorm construction accidents based on system dynamics, but the approach has limitations in handling fuzzy information. Additionally, other studies have explored strategies to enhance construction emergency capabilities from risk identification [7], emergency resource allocation [8], and emergency organizational management [9] perspectives. Overall, these studies provide theoretical support and methodological foundations for improving emergency response capability in prefabricated construction safety, which is crucial for preventing accidents and reducing losses.…”
