“…Although most research papers on handball have offered fixed and stable performance indicators, this paper has verified that the world champion team does not play in the same way throughout the championship and that its performance indicators vary with each match. It seems logical that the Netherlands national team, and any other team, would change elements of its game model and strategy depending on the demands of each match: to exploit opponent team weaknesses, to surprise and deactivate the opponent's strategy, or due to injuries, penalties or changes in player fitness (Martins, et al, 2021). The primary objective of this study was to discover the positional attack performance indicators of the winning Netherlands women’s national handball team during the 2019 World Championship in Japan. An ideographic, follow-up and multidimensional observational design was used to record and analyse positional attacks disputed in equal numbers of players (6v6) excluding attacks with an empty goal. Polar coordinates allowed us to determine behaviour patterns as well as performance indicators related to attack continuity, situations used to destabilise the opponent defence, and actions involved in completing the attack. Two levels of analysis were used: each match individually and all the team’s matches as a whole. Results show that each match had its own specific game dynamics as different behaviour patterns were activated and different performance indicators were observed depending on the match. These findings highlight the variability and dynamic nature of the offensive behaviours and performance indicators of the world champion team, emphasising the need to study performance indicators with research projects that respect that they are specific and changing.

El análisis técnico-táctico se ha convertido en una pieza clave en el rendimiento del voleibol. Por tal motivo, el objetivo de esta revisión sistemática fue profundizar en las últimas tendencias de investigación aplicadas al análisis técnico-táctico del voleibol de alto nivel. Para ello, se llevó a cabo una revisión sistemática de la literatura siguiendo los criterios PRISMA, en el mes de febrero de 2022. Las bases de datos consultadas fueron SPORTDiscus, Web of Science y Scopus. Como resultado se obtuvieron un total de 1087 artículos, de los cuales finalmente 45 formaron parte de la revisión. Se identificaron tres tipos de variables independientes relacionadas con: el contexto social (ranking, calidad del rival y localización), el contexto personal (experiencia, género y edad) y la situación de partido (temporales o espaciales, rol, resultado y modelo de juego), y cinco tipos de variables dependientes relacionadas con: las acciones de juego (saque, recepción, ataque, colocación, acciones finales y acciones intermedias), la toma de decisiones, la variabilidad, las redes de juego y la relación entre jugadores. Como conclusión, queda reflejada la complejidad y multidimensionalidad que presenta el análisis técnico-táctico del voleibol de alto nivel, siendo necesario que los cuerpos técnicos se sitúen en una visión más específica u holística del juego en función de su objeto de estudio. Palabras clave: análisis notacional, scouting, rendimiento, deportes de equipo, competición. Abstract. Technical-tactical analysis has become a key element in volleyball performance. For this reason, the aim of this systematic review was to deepen in the latest research trends applied to technical-tactical analysis of high-level volleyball. To this end, a systematic review of the literature was carried out following the PRISMA criteria in February 2022. The databases consulted were SPORTDiscus, Web of Science and Scopus. As a result, a total of 1087 articles were obtained, from which 45 were finally included in the review. Three types of independent variables were identified related to: social context (ranking, quality of the opponent and location), personal context (experience, gender and age) and match situation (temporal or spatial, role, result and game model), and five types of dependent variables related to: game actions (serve, reception, attack, set, final actions and intermediate actions), decision making, variability, game networks and relationship between players. In conclusion, it is proved how complex and multidimensional technical-tactical analysis of high-level volleyball is, being necessary for coaching staff to decide whether to go for a more specific or holistic analysis of the game depending on the study aims. Unilateral versus Bilateral Landing after Spike Jumps in Male and Female Volleyball: A Systematic Review

Background: The spike is a key action in volleyball, and the landing technique and its asymmetries are commonly associated with an increased risk of injury. Objectives: The aim of this systematic review was to assess how male and female volleyball players land (i.e., unilaterally, or bilaterally) after spike jumps in matches and analytical settings (field or laboratory). Methods: The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses 2020 guidelines were followed, with eligibility criteria defined according to participants, interventions, comparators, study design (PICOS): (p) healthy indoor volleyball players of any sex, age group, or competitive level; (i) exposure to landing after spike actions during official matches AND/OR simulated 6 vs. 6 games AND/OR analytical training conditions AND/OR laboratorial experiments; (c) not mandatory; (o) data on landing mechanics after spike actions, including reporting of whether the landing was unilateral or bilateral; (s) no restrictions imposed on study design. Searches were performed in seven electronic databases (Cochrane Library, EBSCO, PubMed, Scielo, Scopus, SPORTDiscus, and Web of Science) on 23 April 2021. Results: Automated searches provided 420 results. Removal of 119 duplicates resulted in 301 records being screened for titles and abstracts. A total of 25 studies were eligible for full-text analysis. Of these, eight studies were deemed eligible for inclusion in the review. Studies showed that (i) attackers landed asymmetrically 68% of the times (61% left leg, 7% right leg); (ii) bilateral asymmetries were observed for the hip, knee, and ankle joints; (iii) bilateral asymmetries were observed even when players were instructed to land evenly on two feet; (iv) landing contact of the leg opposite to the hitting arm preceded the contact of the homolateral leg. One match analysis study showed that men landed more often on the left (31.5%) or right foot (8.5%) than women (23.7% and 1.6%). Conclusions: Studies analyzing spike landing showed a prevalence of unilateral landings (mostly the left leg first, for right-handed players) in men and women but more prevalently in men.
