Intercalation of Perylenediimide Dye into LDH Clays: Enhancement of Photostability

Abstract: Intercalation of perylenediimide dye into a host layer of layered double hydroxide (LDH) by the anionexchange method is studied. N,N 0 -Bis(4-benzosulfonic acid)perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylbisimide disodium salt (PRSA) has been synthesized and intercalated into the perchlorate form of ZnAl-, CoAl-, and NiAl-LDH. LDH composite with welldefined morphology has been prepared. XRPD and FT-IR investigation show successful intercalation of PRSA, and the interlayer distances are 32.5 Å for ZnAl-LDH-PRSA, 30.0 Å for… Show more

“…A modified coprecipitation method using urea as a precipitation agent was used to successfully synthesize M II Al‐CO 3 ‐LDH (M II = Mg 2+ or Zn 2+ ) microsheets (as shown in the Supporting Information) . LDH solids were dispersed in alcohol and then spin coated onto a SiO 2 /Si substrate.…”

“…The results of this work give a fundamental and detailed understanding of the electrical transport properties of LDH for future electric, electrochemical, and electrocatalytic studies.A modifi ed coprecipitation method using urea as a precipitation agent was used to successfully synthesize M II Al-CO 3 -LDH (M II = Mg 2+ or Zn 2+ ) microsheets (as shown in the Supporting Information). [ 35 ] LDH solids were dispersed in alcohol and then spin coated onto a SiO 2 /Si substrate. A typical scanning electron microscope (SEM) image of MgAl-CO 3 -LDH single crystals is shown in Figure 1 a, and reveals a collection of hexagonal platelets with an average lateral length of 10 µm.…”

“…In particular, it is proposed to extract Evans Blue using Zn-Al LDH [20], Orange-type dyes -using Zn-Al LDH [21], Perylenediimide -using Zn-Al, Co-Al, Ni-Al LDH [22]. Various azo-dyes [23], including Remazol Brilliant Violet [24], had been extracted using Ni-Al LDH, blue dyes (including Maya Blue) [ [20,26] and intercalation [24].…”

“…Shown in Table 1, A In values for various MTX/LDH nanohybrids remain almost unchanged in the range of allowable error. The appearance of trace CO 3 2− was often observed, even when attempts were made to exclude atmospheric carbon dioxide, due to the high affinity of the LDH layers for carbonate anions [21]. The mean particle diameters are summarized in Table 2 and the value was calculated from the corresponding size distributions from SEM statistical results, and the data were collected in triplicate.…”
