International Association of Geoanalysts Certificate of Analysis: Certified Reference Material OU‐6 (Penrhyn Slate)

Abstract: This certified reference material is intended to be used in the analysis of geological materials -rocks, soils and sediments -or other materials that have a silicate matrix. A unit of OU-6 includes approximately 35 g of pulverised material (98.33% of material < 63 µm and 0.03% > 125 µm) and is packaged in a plastic envelope. The certification project was carried out under the direction of the IAG certification committee following the IAG protocol for the certification of reference materials (Kane et al. 2003). … Show more

“…The sensitivity of the instrument was adjusted to about 350,000 counts per second (cps) for 1 ng/ml 115 In and 150,000 cps for 1 ng/ml of 232 Th using the normal sensitivity mode. Analytical results and the uncertainties with the reference material, AMH-1 (andesite) and OU-6 (slate) are listed in Table 2 (Thomson et al, 1999;Potts and Kane, 2005). The average relative standard error of the ICP-MS analyse is estimated to be better than ±5e10% for most elements.…”
