Intracavity optical parametric oscillator pumped by passively Q-switched Nd:YLF laser

Abstract: We report on a passively Q-switched end pumped Nd:YLF laser including a noncritically phase-matched KTP singly resonant intracavity optical parametric oscillator (IOPO-KTP). For the Q-switching operation we have used Cr:YAG saturable absorber. The optimized passively Q-switched Nd:YLF laser without IOPO generated linearly polarized pulses of 11.5 ns and 1.07 mJ at 1047 nm. The conversion efficiency of the optimized Q-switched pulse energy at 1047 nm to 1547 nm of a signal approached about 47%. For optimizing b… Show more

“…Moreover, the natural double reflection of Nd:YLF is much bigger than its thermally induced birefringence, which can eradicate thermal depolarization of the optical isotropic matrix materials such as Nd:YAG, Nd:YVO 4 , and Nd:GdVO 4 [9][10][11]. Therefore, Nd:YLF has a great superiority in effective energy storage, Q switch output, single mode stability and in the application of ultrafast laser system [12][13][14][15][16][17][18] [20]. In this paper, short pulse width, high sta bility and good beam quality of the 1053 nm laser out put is obtained, which can be attributed to the way of LD double end pumped Nd:YLF, cavity dumping technology and excellent four piece coupling system design.…”

“…There are many ways to generate eye−safe radiation at 1.5−μm wavelength [1,2]. One of them is by the use of glasses doped with erbium and ytterbium ions as active media.…”

“…The high peak power in this range can be accomplished by lamp pumped Cr,Tm,Ho:YAG lasers [1][2][3], optical para− metric oscillators (OPOs) pumped by high peak power Nd lasers [4][5][6][7], and developed in the last 2 decades diode pumped on Tm [8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15] or (Tm & Ho) doped crystals [16][17][18][19][20][21], Tm: fiber [22][23][24][25][26][27][28] and hybrid lasers [29][30][31][32][33]. The best result for thulium crystalline laser was 150 W [13].…”
