“…A multi-center trial examined MRI guided wire localization of clinically and mammographically occult lesions of the breast and found it to be beneficial, especially in lesions that were difficult to see mammographically [18]. Preoperative wire localization has expanded to be used to localize lesions in multiple locations throughout the body, including intramuscular lesions [19]. …”

“…The 17–20% of local recurrence rate reported in the literature which is due to inadequate primary surgical excision rather than histological subtype [15]. Compression sclerotherapy using sclerosing agents [6], radiotherapy [12], embolization [12], and laser ablation [16] has also been suggested as treatment options in large diffuse lesions where surgical excision is impractical.…”

“…The concept of UGWL is well established in the management of breast pathology, and has also proved useful in pre-operative localization in orthopaedic surgery. Wire localization to aid the excision of soft tissue tumors including intramuscular haemangiomas [4] and neuromas [5] demonstrated good results, while cases This lies adjacent just lateral to the trachea. The 18-gauge needle can be seen passing though the overlying soft tissue (large arrows), and its tip (small arrow) lies just adjacent to the lesion reported by Chettiar et al [2] aided excision of a femoral sheath neuroma and localization of a sacroiliac abscess for incision and drainage.…”
