Intraokulare Metastasen

Abstract: Metastatic cancer represents the most common form of intraocular malignancy. Due to its abundant vascular supply the choroid is the most common ocular site for intraocular metastatic disease (approximately 90%). Less than 10% of intraocular metastases are located in the iris and/or ciliary body, whereas the retina and vitreous are rarely affected. Most intraocular metastases are carcinomas; the majority of metastases originate from breast cancer in females and lung cancer in males. However, virtually every pri… Show more

“…The incidence of lung cancer with ocular metastasis (OM) is more common with lung adenocarcinoma. 7 In the review of 42 lung cancer cases with OM, small cell lung cancer (SCLC) accounted for 21.4% (n=9), adenocarcinoma accounted for 47.6% (n=20), other types of lung cancer also included neuroendocrine tumors (n=5), large cell carcinoma (n=2), lung squamous cell carcinoma (n=3), lung adenosquamous carcinoma (n=1), and 2 cases of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). 8 Furthermore, lung adenocarcinoma often metastasizes to the brain, liver, kidneys, bone, bone marrow, and adrenal glands.…”

“…Most cases of intraocular metastasis involve carcinomas; the majority of this form of metastasis originate from breast cancer in females and lung cancer in males. 7 Orbital metastatic disease, as the initial presentation of lung adenocarcinoma, is very rare. Consequently, our lack of knowledge regarding this process and the variety of different clinical presentations, may result in misdiagnosis and an unfavorable prognosis.…”

“…The study attempted to determine the correlation between various risk factors and IOM, and establish an accurate indicator to distinguish IOM from nonintraocular metastasis (NIOM) in this subset of patients. The goal is to lay the foundation for targeted local and systemic anticancer treatment strategies (Westerwick et al, 2017).…”
