The European lantern fly, Dictyophara europaea (Linnaeus, 1767) (Insecta: Hemiptera: Dictyopharidae) is an abundant species in Eurasia and North Africa, inhabiting the grassy vegetation of open spaces, and does not have the status of a pest of agricultural plants. The purpose of this study was to assess the relative prevalence of planthopper under conditions of eco- and agroecosystems on herbaceous and woody plants in the Samara region of Russia for the period 1992-2016. Along with natural vegetation, D. europaea was also registered on potatoes, barley and perennial fodder grasses, as well as on cherry, plum and black poplar. The feeding of D. europaea was observed on potatoes, watermelon, pumpkin, alfalfa, as well as on wild plants: steppe sage, tuberous rank, chicory, and on woody plants: common lilac and bird cherry. It was found that the abundance of D. europaea increased by 2.2 times in the 21st century compared to the 20th century. It is reported that under conditions of the Samara region of Russia, D. europaea can be a potential vector of phytoplasma belonging to the pigeon pea witches’-broom group – 16SrIX, which may have phytosanitary significance for cultivated plants.

Current climate change has led to an expansion of the ranges of many phytophagous species, an increase in the density of their populations, the number of generations and the intensity of plant damage. The purpose of this work was to assess the distribution and trophic relationships of the invasive buffalo treehopper Stictocephala bisonia Kopp et Yonke, 1977 (Insecta: Hemiptera: Membracidae) in the Samara region, as well as to determine the area of its distribution in the Russian Federation at the end of 2023. For the first time, adults of S. bisonia were recorded in Samara region in July 2009. Between 2011 and 2023, treehoppers were found in four Samara region districts. Totally, 116 leafhopper specimens were caught in 57 surveys. An average of 8.2 treehoppers were caught on herbaceous vegetation, and 6.0 specimens on tree species per 100 sweeps of the net. In the Samara region, in addition to forbs, the treehopper has been recorded on 24 plant species from 12 families. According to GBIF data, S. bisonia is distributed in 28 administrative Russian entities, the northernmost point is in the Nizhny Novgorod region (56.4N, 43.9E; 08/23/2023) and the easternmost point is in Bashkiria (51.9N, 58.2E; 07/29/2021). S. bisonia assumed to be a serious pest of young fruit trees and berry bushes.

In the summer of 2019, the brown marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys (Stål, 1855), was found for the first time in Yeysk city, the northern part of Krasnodar Krai, Southern Russia. A study was performed in 2019 and 2020 to determine presence and assess damage of H. halys on various plants. In the urban ecosystem of the Azov Sea coast of Russia, H. halys fed on 16 plant species, but no significant damage to any crop was observed. The field maple (Acer campestre L.), green ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica Marshall), London plane (Platanus × hispanica Münchhausen), Persian walnut (Juglans regia L.) and Oregon grape (Berberis aquifolium Pursh), were recorded as the host plants of H. halys for the first time in Russia.
