Investigating residents’ support for Muslim tourism: the application of IGSCA-SEM and fsQCA

Abstract: This study investigates residents' intention to support Muslim tourism (ITSMT) through the lens of residents of non-Islamic countries. By integrating the Social Exchange Theory (SET), Emotional Solidarity Framework (ESF) and the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA), our findings confirmed that welcoming nature was the most salient factor to attenuate the negative effect of perceived risk from Islamophobia by South Korean and Americans residents. The fuzzy set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA) suggested the t… Show more

“…One main reason is that IGSCA considers the full information in the GSCA algorithm over partial information in the PLS framework. This study uses IGSCA to verify the study framework, given the prediction-oriented nature of this research and the complexity of the proposed research model (Hwang, Cho, Jung, et al, 2021; Manosuthi et al, 2022a, 2022b).…”

“…A crisis in one section of the global T&H systems may have long-lasting and deep repercussions on local T&H systems, and this is especially true in the age of globalization, when the local and global constituents are more interwoven than ever before (Ferguson et al, 2017;Pappas, 2019). The need to adapt to changing conditions and build resilient Rise of fsQCA in tourism and hospitality research systems is growing as the ripple effects of global warming, economic crises, and terrorist acts reach beyond national boundaries and local authorities (Manosuthi et al, 2022b;Papatheodorou and Pappas, 2017;Pham Minh and Ngoc Mai, 2023). As a response, this knowledge cluster has concentrated on the necessity for constituents of T&H systems to develop adaptation abilities to both internal and external, slow and fast drivers of change, because the T&H sector is constantly buffeted by change that occurs both inside and beyond its purview (Haddoud et al, 2022;Pappas and Papatheodorou, 2017;Yu et al, 2022).…”

“…Following Durkheim’s theory of emotional solidarity (1915, 1995), Woosnam et al (2009) developed the emotional solidarity scale (ESS), which includes three factors: welcoming nature, emotional closeness, and sympathetic understanding. This measurement has received wide empirical validation and application in various contexts, such as cultural heritage festivals (Li & Wan, 2017; Woosnam & Aleshinloye, 2013), religious tourism (Manosuthi et al, 2022), sports tourism (Hashemi et al, 2022), peer-to-peer accommodation (Suess et al, 2020), and tourism destinations (Gautam, 2022; Joo et al, 2021; Lee et al, 2022).…”
