The research aimed to reveal through classification the graduate thesis written in the field of preschool education between the years of 2010-2018. This study was qualitative research, and the data were collected through the document examination method. The sampling for the research was determined with criterion sampling, a purposeful sampling strategy. Based on this, a total of 984 graduate thesis were examined with 787 master's thesis, 120 doctoral thesis, and 27 Medical/Dentistry thesis, that were written in the field of preschool education. In line with the specified criteria, the full texts of the thesis were recorded and studied based on the subheadings determined in the scope of the research. Frequency was utilized in the analysis of the data. It was determined as a result of the research that there was an increase in the number of graduate thesis in 2015 and afterwards and that this increase was especially prevalent in the master's field. The research determined that, with regard to types of research, a quantitative research method and experimental and survey research models were used more frequently. According to the results of the research, it is recommended that research groups aimed at the field of preschool education in Turkey be diversified and that different research models be used.

This study aims to investigate the descriptive characteristics, research topics and methodological procedures of master's theses and doctoral dissertations regarding early childhood education in Turkey. Within the scope of the current study, 931 Master's theses and 171 doctoral dissertations were analyzed according to university, institute, department, publication year, academic title of the advisor, research topic, sample group, location in which the study took place, research setting of the study, type of research, instruments, statistical analysis, and sampling methods. The study covers theses published from 1986 to 2016, and a content analysis method was implemented for data analysis. As expected, the current study found that students were the most frequently used subject groups in both MS theses (37.39%) and PhD dissertations (53.39%). In the MS theses, researchers mostly preferred research topics regarding the education of young children (29.95%) whereas in PhD. dissertations, researchers mainly focused on developmental issues (32.78%). Nearly, all the graduate theses were conducted in city centers and central districts.

An Analysis of Graduate Theses on Early Childhood Education: The Case of Turkey

The primary concern of this study is to reveal the general tendencies (genders of the authors/supervisors, change in the number of graduate theses by year, number of research problems-results-suggestions, focal points, the corpus by research models/methods, data collection methods/tools, and population/sample group) of graduate on early childhood education in Turkey between 2005 and 2017. The sampling of the present research study consists of 182 graduate theses. The study relies on the retrieval of the desired data by document analysis through a systematic examination of the available theses by using a thesis examination form developed by the researchers. The results revealed that 85% of the authors were female and almost half of the supervisors were assistant professors and moreover 59% of the supervisors were female. The study also showed that a great majority of the examined theses contained 0-10 research problems, results and suggestions. It was also figured out in the study that the focal point of the thesesis majorly qualifications of preschool teachers, characteristics and tendencies of parents, effects of different approaches/methods on early childhood education, characteristics of children in early childhood education or at preschool age. It was observed that 68.1% of graduate theses were quantitative studies and that the least employed research method was observation (0.5%), case study (1.1%), interview (1.6%) and phenomenological method (1.6%), while the most frequently administered data collection tool, accounting for 65%, was questionnaire.
