Investigating the Safety Cognition of Taiwan's Construction Personnel

Abstract: A high construction accident rate is related to failures in the implementation of safety management. The rate of occupational injuries of Taiwan construction industry is higher than the ones of the developed counties. Knowledge and reinforcement of safety cognition for construction personnel are critical to improve safety performance in construction. In this study, a safety cognition evaluation scale is developed to measure the safety cognition of construction personnel in Taiwan. The safety cognition of const… Show more

“…Based on this, Byrd proposes to measure food safety cognition along three dimensions: attitude, knowledge, and self-efficacy (Byrd-Bredbenner et al, 2012 ). The scale developed by Chen is mainly used to measure the safety cognition of construction workers, including human error, safety performance, accident causes, risk perception, management actions, safety management and control, as well as accident statistics, totaling 29 items (Chen et al, 2011 ). In recent years, several researchers have explored the structure of individuals' safety cognition from the perspective of general abilities.…”

“…Thus, different scholars and experts have different theories and opinions about how to feature safety culture dimensions. In light of literature review, the dimensions of safety culture can be divided into at least Safety Commitment [7,8], Safety Training [9,10], Safety Communication [8,11], Safety Environment [12,13], Safety Rule [10,14], Safety System [15,16,17], Safety Leadership [18,19], Risk Management [8,13], Safety Knowledge [20,21], Safety Encouragement and Punishment [11,8], Safety Awareness and Attitude [21,22,23], Safe Behaviour [6,22], and Worker Participation [24,25,26]. That proves that safety culture is a multidimensional concept, so it is difficult to fully understand safety culture.…”
