Investigation of Aerodynamic Interference in a Multirotor by PIV Method

Abstract: ABSTRACT:This paper presents part of the investigation into aerodynamics of the vertical take-off and landing multirotor. There are described the technology to design a research object and the Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) setup to measure airflow around the aircraft. The around-the-aircraft speed distribution was investigated for an angle of attack of 0 o and for four different configurations. The results are presented in form of vector velocity field of airflow on the plane of symmetry of the test object.… Show more

“…The tracer particles were carried out in the form Figure 6 shows a test stand for visualizing the airflow around a multirotor aircraft. A detailed description of the measuring system is presented in References [9,38]. The velocity field visualization system was based on the PIV technique and consisted of two key components: a twin-head solid-state laser from Litron (Litron, Rugby, Warwickshire, England) (ND: YAG neodymium laser) and a PCO HiSense digital camera (PCO AG, Kelheim, Germany).…”

“…An iteration history file (GAD File) is created to run the optimisation. Two tools are used to present simulation results: IMPRESS Chart (allows the user to generate charts using predefined templates or designed by the user) and PP3 (for flow animations) [15,16].…”

“…Mathematical modelling is a method often used in the design and testing of aircraft engines. It helps shorten the time from concept to prototype, as in the case with the following models of: the process of combustion [15,16], cooling systems [1716,18], charge exchange [19], or whole engines [20,21].…”

“…In the case of gas flow analysis, the PIV method is a good alternative to CFD, as it allows flow visualisation. The measurement system in question is described in detail in [5,6].…”
