Investigation of meandering in Filyos River by means of satellite sensor data

Abstract: Abstract:The most significant morphological property of a river is the meandering process, which is dominated and governed by hydraulic, hydrologic and topographic characteristics of the river and its drainage area. It is possible to obtain reliable data on river morphology in the long term by using remotely sensed data. In this study the Filyos River, located at the Western Black Sea region of Turkey, has been selected as the study area to show the capabilities of remote sensing technology and to define the a… Show more

“…Çaycuma and Gökçebey districts situate near the Filyos River and their populations have been increasing day by day. Although the economy of the region is dependent on agriculture and forestry, it has been changed with the construction of some industrial factories such as cement and paper factories (Seker et al, 2005). There are substantial differences in the richness of terrestrial ecosystem attributable to the topographical features of the region and the delta of the river is a natural environment with untouched areas (Kucukali, 2014).…”

“…Furthermore, remote sensing technology has the advantage of obtaining up to date digital data through costeffective and rapidtechniques in comparisionto the conventional in-situ methods (Kaya, 2007;Kaya et al, 2006;Seker et al, 2005;Kaya, et al, 2004;Okay et al, 2004).…”
