Investigation of the gas permeability properties from polysulfone/polyethylene glycol composite membrane

Abstract: In this research, the effect of polyethylene glycol (PEG) molecular weight on permeability and selectivity of polysulfone/polyethylene glycol (PSF/PEG) composite membrane is investigated. Polyethylene glycol with molecular weights of 4000, 6000, and 10,000 is applied. It is shown from the results that PEG applied in composite membranes with molecular weight of 1000 had the best diffusivity in comparison with the other composite membranes containing PEG with lower molecular weights. In addition, it is perceived… Show more

“…This is due to the outer layer of the membrane having the greatest contact area with the non-solvent. In addition, these phenomena cause the membrane to be thicker [18]. A similar result was also reported by Saljoughi et al [17], in which the addition of PEG caused the increase of membrane thickness.…”

“…Investigating the distribution of filler particles in the membrane matrix and calculating the membrane thickness are critical SEM analysis applications [1,60]. It should be noted that the type of solvent used and the synthesis method are very useful in the morphological process of membranes [61].…”

“…13a we see two factors extraction concentration (X 1 ) and surfactant concentration (X 2 ) with response rate, while factors X 4 , X 3 and X 5 are in the lower, middle and lower positions, respectively. By looking at this graph, we find that if factor X 1 is at its highest level (3.5-5) and factor (X 2 ) is at its highest level (3)(4)(5), the highest response rate for hafnium ion recovery would be achieved.…”

“…However, to date, membrane processes have found little industrial applications. The reasons for this can be due to its low separation rate and selectivity [2][3][4][5]. Nonetheless, to further improve the separation efficiency, a newer method has been developed.…”
