Investigation on Airport Landscape Cooling Associated with Irrigation: A Case Study of Adelaide Airport, Australia

Abstract: Extreme summertime heat is becoming a major issue for aircraft operations. As global temperatures continue to rise, some of the heaviest planes on the longest flights may eventually be unable to depart during the hottest part of summer days. During summer days, some airports have to reduce the payload of aircraft, including cargo and/or passengers in the hotter days of summer. Nonetheless, there is no existing body of research on the potential for airport cooling. Furthermore, extreme heat on the ground also a… Show more

“…The selected measuring station for this study is located three meters above sea level, providing a representative sampling location to ensure the accuracy of the recorded data [5]. The study adopted a systematic approach, focusing on the collection and analysis of rainwater quality, temperature, and humidity data within the Juanda International Airport area [9]. The time frame for the data collection spanned twelve years, from 2010 to 2021.…”

“…Acid rain poses significant environmental and health concerns, affecting everything from human health to the structural integrity of built environments and the mechanical properties of materials such as asphalt [2], [7][8][9]. The Juanda International Airport, approximately 20 km from Surabaya City and 3 km west of the Madura Strait waters, has a geographical location that influences local rain formation.…”

“…Bioretention is an effective low impact development (LID) technology for stormwater management of first-flush rainwater treatment in small scale catchments, which is a potential method for processing water quality and managing water quantity [1,2]. Bioretention is a soil-vegetation system, also known as rain garden, controlling water quantity by filtration and evaporation, and removing pollutants through filtration, adsorption, microbe exchange, and other functions in the soil [3][4][5][6]. The LID technology is widely used for urban stormwater management and flood protection [7,8].…”
