Iron oxide/titania composites for radar absorbing material (RAM) applications

Abstract: Iron oxide/titania composites were synthesized by precipitation method. Amount of iron oxide was varied in the composites. The single phase (anatase) was obtained for the weight ratio of 0-20% and three phases (anatase, magnetite and hematite) were found for the weight ratio of 30% and 40% of iron oxide. The crystallite size of titania decreased with increasing of iron oxide content. The specific surface area, total pore volume and BJH pore volume of the sample increased with increasing iron oxide content in t… Show more

“…Radiation absorption and energy dissipation in the form of heat by a material occur via dielectric and/or magnetic loss [138][139][140][141][142]. Therefore, so called "Radar Absorbing Materials" (RAMs) should have large permittivity and permeability for an efficient absorber [143][144][145].…”

“…Dielectric materials are applied in radar-wave absorption through dielectric polarization and relaxation loss. Nowadays, studies on dielectric wave-absorbing materials focus on barium titanate perovskites, barium ferric acid, and ferroelectric ceramics [ 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 ]. Magnetic radar-absorbing materials rely on magnetic loss to absorb and dissipate radar electromagnetic waves, which is competent of matching impedance as implemented in composite materials mainly composed of dielectric rubber matrix and functional fillers such as ferrite, carbonyl iron, ultrafine metal powder [ 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 ].…”
