This study aims to determine the influence of practice-based active learning on students' interest and response in learning local culture in drama classes. The research was conducted at public universities in Indonesia using two active learning strategies. Qualitative methods using participatory techniques, interviews, and observations were carried out in collecting data for this study. The sample of this research is fifty drama class students. The analysis of data was done after the drama classes ended, which was marked by the process of assessing student learning outcomes through stage performances. This study showed a statistically significant increase in students' interest and response to learning local culture through collaborative learning methods and role-play in drama classroom learning. This study recommends adopting an active learning strategy in teaching local cultural materials to students. Further research is recommended on designing different active learning strategies with other variables and in different locations. This study investigates final scores predictability based on students’ longitudinally reported motivation belief and the use of learning strategies in blended learning (BL) courses for freshmen and upper-level students. The Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire was administered three times to measure students’ motivation belief and use of learning strategies (N=314) and collected 850 viable surveys. Firstly, an investigation of the dynamics of the factors involved with students’ motivational belief and use of learning strategies was completed. It was found that freshmen students’ motivation dropped until the mid-term and it increased again as the course progressed towards the end, whereas, upper-level students’ motivation continued to drop throughout the course. In terms of the predictability of final scores, at construct level, stepwise regression chose motivation as predictors of freshmen’s final score and strategy used as a predictor for upper-level students. The paper also discusses the implications of the study related to self-regulation learning theory, learning analytics, and instructional design.

Students’ writing ability has become an essential element for student success and may be influenced by the student and teachers skills; therefore, the subject has garnered the attention of regulators and researchers alike. Thus, the current research investigates the role of student critical thinking skills and teachers’ intellectual skills on students’ writing ability across private universities in Indonesia. The researchers also investigate the mediating impact of student learning among the nexus of student critical thinking skills, teachers’ intellectual skills and student writing ability in the context of private universities in Indonesia. The present study has used primary data collection methods and employs the survey questionnaires for data collection. The current research also use the primary data analysis tools such as smart-PLS to test the study hypotheses as well as the items’ validity and reliability. The results reveal that student critical thinking skills and teachers’ intellectual skills have a positive influence on student writing ability in private universities in Indonesia. The results also show that student learning significantly mediates between the association of student critical thinking skills, teachers’ intellectual skills and student writing ability of private universities in Indonesia. This study is meaningful for future researchers who want to investigate this area in a more in-depth manner in the future and provides the guideline to the regulating and developing authorities while formulting policies related to students’ writing ability in the universities of Indonesia.
