Is health-related quality of life associated with adequacy of hemodialysis in chronic kidney disease patients?

Abstract: Introduction Monitoring Health Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) in different stages of chronic kidney disease is advised by all nephrology societies. We aimed to study the relation between quality of life and dialysis adequacy. Methods One hundred patients (51% males), on regular hemodialysis 3/week for > 6 months in two hospitals were included. Single pool Kt/V was used to assess dialysis adequacy. Patients were grouped into 3 divisions accordin… Show more

“…The higher rates of adequate dialysis reported in high-income countries may be due to the routine use of high-flux dialysis and the greater blood flow rates with effective vascular access for dialysis [20]. We also found that a URR below 65% was a predictor of lower HRQOL, consistent with findings from other studies [21,22].…”

“…Haemodialysis can improve the quality of life of patients by removing inflammatory factors and uremia toxins. At present, the urea clearance index (Kt/V) is commonly used to evaluate the dialysis adequacy for haemodialysis patients (Hasan et al, 2021), so in this study, the compliance rate of Kt/V was included as an outcome indicator. The incidence of intradialytic hypotension (IDH) in dialysis is high, and it occurs in approximately 20–30% of dialysis patients.…”
