Conventional methods assume that once POFs are seen within the ovary, ovulation has occurred and it is possible that spawning has occurred, thereby reducing the number eggs available for the fecundity counts; therefore, the individual ovary is unfit for fecundity analysis due to likely underestimation of fecundity (Claramunt et al 2007).
