“…Since our primary goal was to detect three pathogenic Vibrio species (V. cholerae, V. parahaemolyticus, and V. vulnificus) in a single reaction, we used alkaline peptone water (APW) for enrichment broth instead of species-specific selective enrichment broth such as TTPW, GSTP, SCB, SPB, and PNCC (Gomez-Gil & Roque, 2006). APW, initially developed for the cultivation of V. cholerae (Donovan & van Netten, 1995), can be used for the cultivation of other Vibrio species including our target species (Gomez-Gil & Roque, 2006) and is a widely used enrichment medium recommended by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) (Food and Drug Administration, 2010).…”
