In the vicinity of Kinabalu Park, Sabah, a study was conducted to determine the plant community and its composition in the habitat of Rafflesia sp. and its host, Tetrastigma sp. A total of 5 circular-shaped plots each with a fixed radius of 20 meters, were located around Kinabalu Park, namely in Losou Podi, Losou Minunsud, Sayap Substation, Langanan and Gansurai. The Rafflesia species detected in Kinabalu Park during the present study were Rafflesia pricei and R. keithii. Overall, 19 Rafflesia individuals were detected, which comprised of 3 flowers and 16 buds. A total of 20 scars from former dead flowers and buds were obtained on the host, where they possessed an average diameter of 2.2-4.8 cm from the five plots. There were 778 individuals recorded for plant community, belonging to 111 genera, 53 families and 250 species. The total tree density was 1238 individuals/ha, where the family Lauraceae (11.05%) had the highest individuals followed by Annonaceae (8.61%). Although the species Baccaurea lanceolata were found in all study plots, the species Xantophyllum macrophyllum has the most individuals detected (3.60%) in the plant community habitats. The value of the Shannon-Wiener Index was H’=3.23 and the Evenness Index is low, E=0.10. The percentage of family similarity between plots was high (SBC=70.19–48.23%), but the percentage of species similarity between plots was very low (SJ=4.31–1.54%). This study shows that both the species of Xanthophyllum macrophyllum and Baccaurea lanceolata have a relationship with the habitat ofRafflesia in Kinabalu Park, as both species were located nearest to the Rafflesia’s host. Moreover, these two species were seen to be well associated with Tetrastigma since the Tetrastigma was observed to climb several trees of these species in the plot.

Rafflesia patma is one of endangered species in Indonesia. It is nature population was currently decreasing due to Rafflesia patma holoparasitic nature, whose existence depends on its host (Tetrastigma sp). Pangandaran Nature Reserve is one of areas which has become the habitat of Rafflesia patma in Indonesia. This study aimed to know the suitability of ecological and social habitat for Rafflesia patma in Pangandaran Nature Reserve. The Spatial Multi Criteria Analysis (SMCA) had been done using ecological and social conditions approach that influencing the existence of Rafflesia patma. Parameters of ecological conditions used were the presence of Rafflesia patma, host, predators, and water source. While the social conditions used were the center of human activity and accessibility. Each parameter was scored and overlaid into a map of the suitability of ecological and social conditions. Scoring in each parameter based on a literature study. The result showed that there were three classes of suitability for ecological and social conditions. Location with the most suitable result was 52,5 ha or 12,52%, suitable 176,5 ha 42,09%, and that did not suitable for the ecological and social conditions was 190,3 ha or 45,39%. Location with the most suitable conditions for Rafflesia patma habitat spread in the area which was an ecotone of coastal forest and lowland forest. Based on these results, the management of Pangandaran Nature Reserve need to pay more attention to the ecological habitat of Rafflesia patma. In addition, restrictions on community activities also need to be carried out in order to minimize habitat disturbance by the surrounding community.

Rafflesia is a rare species and its distribution has never been recorded in forest areas of Kuningan District. The study aimed to describe the morphology and identify Rafflesia species, analyze the physical environment, host species characteristics, and vegetation. The methods used were a direct measurement of morphology, physical environmental conditions and host plant characteristics, and sample plots of vegetation characteristics. The results showed that the Rafflesia species found in Kuningan District was Rafflesia rochussenii and occupied a very steep and rocky location. The host species was liana and possibly belong to the genus Tetrastigma and the trees vegetation were dominated by Villebrunea rubescens species.
