“…In this study, demographics of what may be the last remaining resident coastal population in Argentina were assessed using mark-recapture analysis (Pollock’s Robust Design) of a photo-identification dataset collected between 2006 and 2011 in Bahía San Antonio (Province of Río Negro). Although the species is known to be among the best studied cetacean species in the world, our results provide only the second robust estimates for bottlenose dolphins in the Southwest Atlantic [ 12 ], and are the first estimates for the species from Argentinian waters. Therefore, the obtained information is believed to be critical for any attempt to avoid the looming disappearance of the bottlenose dolphin along the coasts of Argentina, indicating the urgent need for serious conservation efforts.…”
