Many clinical patients may experience unpleasant customer satisfaction in hospitals and other health facilities when receiving medical treatment. However, patient satisfaction may be measured and noticeable in clinical observations as well as the patient's follow up appointment and treatment provided by nurses and the medical staff. Also, when each patient receives individual attention while integrating a holistic patient care approach can improve the services and customer satisfaction. Hospitals must provide adequate supervision and work with experienced medical staff and management regarding health services, primarily focusing on nursing personnel. Most of the nurses in clinical cases spend more time with aiding patients, and medical care plays an essential role in patient satisfaction. Evaluating patient care satisfaction, some medical facilities and hospitals may not take into consideration that patient satisfaction is an indicator of quality and control. Care satisfaction may help to determine health-care delivery and performance and other health system awareness, especially paying attention to the nursing staff. Nurses have a vital and direct role in the healthcare of clinical patients.

Objective: to understand the perception of dignity of patients in palliative care and to identify factors that may increase or decrease the sense of dignity. Method: an exploratory study with a qualitative approach, carried in a Palliative Care Center in São Paulo (Brazil), with the Chochinov’s Dignity Model as theoretical framework and content analysis as methodological framework. The participants of this study were 20 patients in palliative care, assessed through semi-structured interviews based on three questions: "What is dignity for you?", "What increases your dignity?", "What decreases your dignity?" The interviews were recorded with the patients’ authorization, from September to November 2017, and transcribed for content analysis. Results: the analysis of the perception of dignity allowed the identification of three categories: Correct person, Autonomy/independence and Socio-political factors. The factors that increased the sense of dignity were the following: Care, Independence/autonomy, Leisure/positive thinking/being with friends. And those that decreased it were the following: Behaviors/attitudes, Health status and Economic situation. Conclusion: the perception of dignity of patients in palliative care was influenced by health professionals and caregivers. Being a “correct person”, maintaining autonomy, being cared for and respected has increased the sense of dignity. Urban violence and the lack of compliance with accessibility policies have reduced the sense of dignity among palliative care patients.

Objective: To construct and validate the Nursing Warmth Scale (NWS) through the development of a standardized measurement of nurses' warmth, perceived from the perspective of patients, and identify the behaviors and factors associated with this feeling of warmth. Materials and methods: The NWS was developed following the scale construction methodology under a triphasic model. The construction of items was elaborated based on the results of a previously published integrative review that consolidated the construct and the related variables. A qualitative phase was also incorporated to evaluate the latent variable. Content validity was assessed with 10 expert judges. An item try-out was conducted with 476 patients in health institutions. Exploratory factor analysis —through the common factor method and oblique rotation— was used for the item reduction process. Results: The construct “Nursing Warmth” was established after the theoretical and empirical phases of the study. The literature review and interviews with 23 patients and 25 nursing professionals provided a set of behaviors divided into 2 categories: verbal and nonverbal behaviors. Exploratory factor analysis allowed identifying 5 factors and 35 items. The reliability was estimated through Cronbach's alpha. The identified factors are: F1-Nonverbal connection-relationship with the other (0.943), F2-Empathy (0.909), F3-Verbal connection-relationship with the other (0.914), F4-Inclusion (0.858), and F5-Confidence (0.852). The Tucker-Lewis Index was 0.901. Conclusions: The NWS demonstrates evidence of reliability and validity. This tool may be useful in clinical settings and for teaching and research addressing interpersonal nursing skills.
