Lactoferrin Contents in Bovine Colostrum and Milk

Abstract: Lactoferrin was determined by the immunological method of Laurell in bovine colostrum and milk from 1 to 547 days after parturition (60 samples). Iron which was closely contacted with the bacterio static effect of lactoferrin, and nitrogen distribution were also measured. Lactoferrin contents in bovine colostrum, transitional milk, matured milk, and milk in later lactaable differences among samples from individual cows. The lactoferrin to whey protein ratios in colostrum, transitional milk, matured milk and mi… Show more

The mean Lf concentration (µg/ml) in the present study is similar to those previously reported [7,22,23]. The mean Lf concentration in quarter milk affected with subclinical mastitis was significantly (p<0.001) higher than that in normal milk, as has been reported previously [8].…”

“…But the normal concentration of Lf in cows, especially that in the period of lactation, has still not been clearly established. Previously reported normal milk Lf concentrations in the lactation period were 250-404 µg/ml [7,22,23].…”

“…Bovine lactoferrin은 우유의 유청단백질에 속하는 분자 량 82 kDa의 철 결합 단백질로 체액과 혈액에 존재하는 transferrin family의 하나이다. Lactoferrin은 젖소의 초유에 0.8 mg/mL 정도 함유되어 있으며, 정상유에는 0.1-0.4 mg/ mL 정도로 미량이 함유되어 있다 (Masson and Heremans, 1971;Suzuki et al, 1977 (Legrand et al, 2005(Legrand et al, , 2006. 최근의 연구에서는 lactoferrin이 건강한 사람에게 면역과 항산화 상태를 유지시켜주는 보충제로서 기능이 있는 것 으로 보고했다 (Mulder et al, 2008…”

“…Under normal conditions, the lactoferrin concentration of colostral milk is up to about 2 mg/ml and decreases gradually to baseline levels during lactation period (0.02 to 0.5 mg/ml) (Harmon et al, 1975(Harmon et al, , 1976Smith and Schanbacher, 1977;Suzuki et al, 1977;Gaunt et al, 1980). Almost all concentration measurements of lactoferrin have been performed with milk defatted or skimmed milk from dairy cattle using immunological methods such as electroimmunodiffusion, single radial immunodiffusion (SRID) or enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).…”
