Le gisement épipaléolithique à pointes de Malaurie de Champ-Chalatras (Les Martres d’Artière, Puy-de-Dôme)

Abstract

Les données disponibles concernant l'occupation de l'Auvergne, voire du Massif central, à la fin du Tardiglaciaire et au début de l'Holocène sont relativement ténues. Elles correspondent pour la plupart aux fouilles plus ou moins anciennes de grottes et d'abris-sous-roche situés en moyenne altitude. La désaffection des plaines de Basse-Auvergne à cette époque est expliquée par certains auteurs par une recrudescence de l'activité volcanique régionale (Raynal et Daugas, 1992). La découverte et la fouille du gisement de Champ-Chalatras, par des salariés de l'Afan durant un mois et demi (Pasty et alii, 2001), va à l'encontre de cette théorie et offre ainsi des éléments de comparaison inédits avec les gisements d'altitude. La richesse et la bonne conservation générale de l'ensemble des vestiges archéologiques permettent une étude de l'organisation spatiale d'un campement de chasseurs-cueilleurs et des comportements de subsistance en relation avec les matières premières minérales et animales. Les différents aspects abordés concernent l'étude du comportement humain dans une optique technoéconomique et territoriale basée sur l'analyse des vestiges lithiques et fauniques. Ces éléments sont replacés dans un cadre chronostratigraphique précis, que différentes analyses ont permis d'établir.

The pleistocene-holocene transition in Southwestern France: A focus on the laborian

“…As far as portable art is concerned, certain collections have delivered pebbles with geometric engravings that clearly evoke the ancestral traditions of the Late Azilian: Champ Chalatras (Pasty et al, 2002); le Roc in Gironde (Lenoir, 1996); Vaise (Pasty in Treffort dir., 2017) and maybe at La Guichaumerie, in Maine-et-Loire and Roquemissou in Aveyron (Boboeuf, 2003). In the same time, three sites yielded fragments of long bones that are finely engraved with schematic zoomorphic representations (aurochs or horses), filled in with crosshatching in places.…”

“…For the Early Laborian, the collections of La Borie del Rey (levels 7 and 5 after Coulonges), Rochereil (level II sup. ), Port-de-Penne, Le Pont d'Ambon (level 2), Champ-Chalatras and Vaise (Pasty et al, 2002;Langlais et al, 2014b;see Pasty in Treffort dir., 2017) show a search for broad, regular blades with a flat cross-section and straight profile ( fig.4).
