Over the last decade, the community of inquiry framework has proved successful for online learning experiences in diverse disciplines, although studies in the teaching of English as a foreign language arena are still scarce. In this vein, this article reports a preliminary study about the development of the oral skill in a Basic English online course, uncovering the relationship between the community of inquiry framework (with its three forms of presence: teaching, cognitive, and social) and some indicators of the oral skill. Findings, based on learners' perceptions, confirmed the existence of such framework and suggest that the teaching presence fosters grammar, accuracy, and vocabulary. Discussion of findings, limitations of the study and future possible research actions conclude this report.Key words: Community of inquiry, foreign language teaching-learning, online education, oral skill.En la última década, el modelo de comunidad de indagación ha demostrado ser efectivo en experiencias de aprendizaje en línea en diversas disciplinas. No obstante, los estudios en el campo de la enseñanza del inglés aún son escasos. En este orden de ideas, el presente artículo reporta un estudio preliminar acerca del desarrollo de la habilidad oral en un curso de inglés en línea, así, se revelan algunas relaciones entre las presencias de este modelo (docente, cognitiva y social) y algunos indicadores de la habilidad oral. Los hallazgos, basados en la percepción de los estudiantes, confirman la existencia de dichas presencias y sugieren que la docente contribuye a la mejora de la gramática, la precisión y el vocabulario. Finalmente, se presentan conclusiones, limitaciones y futuros aspectos por indagar.Palabras clave: Comunidad de Indagación, educación en línea, enseñanza-aprendizaje de lenguas

The era of advanced information and communication technologies is offering new opportunities and challenges for the integration of web-based authentic materials into the learning settings. Such teaching elements are regarded British Council LearnEnglish, BBC English, Ted-Ed, YouTube Edu, LearnOutLoud, LinguaLeo communicating and collaborating tools, which are integrated in course development to create blended learning context for ESP (English for Specific Purposes) auditorium. The article suggests strategies for implementing British Council LearnEnglish.org, BBC English, Ted-Ed, LearnOutLoud, LinguaLeo materials in order to foster learners’ awareness and cooperation in hybrid courses. The analyses of British Council LearnEnglish.org, BBC 6-minute English, Ted-Ed, LearnOutLoud, LinguaLeo online platforms illustrate the benefits and peculiarities of language learning process by using virtual sources.

This article reports a mixed-method research probing the effect of utilizing a blogbuddy system on English for academic purposes learners' writing performance. Sixty Iranian undergraduate engineering students at Iran University of Science and Technology Virtual Campus participated in this study. Our analysis of the students' writings indicated that blog-integrated writing instruction accompanied with the implementation of a blog-buddy system resulted in a significant improvement in students' writing performance. Further, the results of an attitudinal survey revealed that students who received feedback from blog-buddies showed higher positive attitudes toward utilizing blogs for their writing classes. For further investigation, data were gathered through comments the participants left on the weblog and the forums, semistructured interviews, and teacher observations. Four themes emerged, which were used to come up with a framework based on the learner-centred approach. The framework integrates web-based trainings and learners' learning styles and fosters the learners' control of their learning experiences.
