Linearly dichroic plasmonic lens and hetero-chiral structures

Abstract: Abstract:We present theoretical and experimental study of plasmonic Hetero-Chiral structures, comprised of constituents with opposite chirality. We devise, simulate and experimentally demonstrate different schemes featuring selective surface plasmon polariton focusing of orthogonal polarization states and standing plasmonic 'vortex fields'.

“…Particularly, SPPs have the potential of confining fields that carry OAM to subwavelength dimensions. Archimedean spirals (14) and related nanostructures (24)(25)(26)(27) were demonstrated to generate and control OAM-carrying plasmonic vortices under different illuminations. These advances provided many insights (28)(29)(30)(31) into the nature of OAM, opening the door toward several exciting applications (32,33).…”

“…The two modes can be simultaneously excited when the polarization and slit orientations are at an angle [25][26][27][28][29], which has empirically been used in manipulations of wavefields such as the design of quantum eraser [28]. Instead of the usually used circularly polarized illuminations, the manipulations of SPP wavefields based on linearly polarized illuminations [30][31][32][33][34] have recently attracted more and more interests, such as SPP focusing [35][36][37][38][39]. However, in most of these applications, the slit widths of the designed structures are often smaller than the cutoff width for the photonic mode excitation [40,41], and photonic modes together with their influences on the polarization are rarely considered.…”
