Liposarcoma of the stomach is extremely rare, and only 37 cases have been reported worldwide. We herein report two cases of liposarcoma of the stomach. The first patient was referred to our hospital with upper abdominal discomfort. The endoscopic examination revealed a tumor mass about 3 cm in diameter. The patient underwent a partial gastrectomy and had an uneventful recovery. The histopathological examination revealed a well-differentiated liposarcoma. The second patient had symptoms of upper abdominal discomfort combined with nausea and anorexia. Several palpable masses were found with endoscopy. Endoscopic submucosal dissection was the treatment used, and the postoperative course was uneventful. The histopathological diagnosis was a well-differentiated liposarcoma. The two patients did not undergo any adjuvant therapy. They are both currently in good condition without recurrence. Therefore, we believe that the outcome of liposarcoma of the stomach is positive, and surgical resection may be the first choice for treatment at present.

Liposarcoma is one of the most common sarcomas in adults, but very rarely presents as a primary in the upper gastrointestinal system. Herein, we present a 71-year-old male patient who underwent wedge excision biopsy twice and then fine needle aspiration and total gastrectomy for a recurrent gastroeosophageal junction mass. In microscopic sections, both well-differentiated and dedifferentiated components were seen. Tumor cells were positive for MDM2, CDK4 and negative for CD117, DOG1, CD34, SMA, Desmin, S-100, HMB45, SOX10, AE1/AE3, CAM5.2, CK18. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) was performed and MDM2 gene (12q15) amplification was detected. According to these findings, a diagnosis of dedifferentiated liposarcoma was supported. We believe this is the first reported case of dedifferentiated liposarcoma of the gastroesophageal junction.

Primary liposarcoma of the stomach is rare and only seven cases have been described in the English literature. Here we report the eighth case, which occurred in a 68-year-old woman who presented with repeated tarrystools andhematemesis. Endoscopic examination revealed a large ulcerated submucosal mass atthe gastric angle. Thepatient wastreated bytotal gastrectomy. On microscopic examination, the tumor showed the features of a well differentiated sclerosing liposarcoma. Immunohistochemically, many spindle to stellate tumorcells were diffusely positive for vimentin and CD34. Positivity for 8-100 protein was found in the adipocytic component, including lipoblasts, in addition to some spindle-shaped tumor cells. On ultrastructural examination, the spindle to stellate cells had features characteristic of fibroblasts. No recurrence or metastasis wasseen during 13 months. Liposarcoma of the stomach has to be considered in thedifferential diagnosis with other submucosal lesions, such asgastric lipoma and gastrointestinal stromal tumor.
