“…It is based on an extension of the concept of plastic hinges in beam calculations. It is able to account for softening as in other damage theories [27] or due to local buckling [28]. Up to now, the parameters of the constitutive law of hinges, and more generally of beams, relied upon global data such as displacements at few prescribed measurement points [29].…”

“…These results confirm that the damage mechanism for each type was different depending on the frame shape. Originally, the limit strain on the compression side should be taken into account the local buckling (e.g., Sohal and Chen, 1987) of the member. However, in this study, steel pipe members (D/t = 400.0/14.0 = 29) below the diameter thickness ratio (D/t ≤ 60) which is safe for local buckling shown in design manual of steel sabo structures (Sabo & Landslide Technical Center [STC], 2009) are used, so that it is the same as the tension side for the convenience of analysis.

“…Some of these hypotheses can also be found in Refs. [15,27]. In the first part of the beam where the inertia is denoted byĨ ≤ I 0 (i.e., 0 ≤ x ≤ lb ), the rotation field…”
