In this work, a substrate integrated waveguide slot array filtering antenna for dual band applications is presented. This novel design performs the functions of both a filter and an antenna simultaneously. The main intention of this work is to design a circuit that separates the frequencies in a dual band operation. The antenna is designed as an integration of two parts; the upper part operates at 10.2 GHz while the lower part operates at 16.4 GHz. In each part, an array of five longitudinal slots is incorporated, as well as a SIW antenna with complementary split ring resonators that operate as a band pass filter at the front end. Each slot array antenna is designed for a specific frequency band, and its function depends upon its preceding band pass filter. The two band pass filters allow only signals from the frequency bands for which they are designed to their corresponding slot array antennas. This technique, along with properly spaced metal vias of the SIW antenna, prevents any leakage and hence reduces interference in dual band operation. Both the band pass filter and the antenna can be built on the same planar board. The antenna is fed through a microstrip to SIW taper transition. CST Microwave Studio software is used for optimization and simulation of the structure. The antenna was built on an RT Duroid 5880 and tested to investigate practical validation. The antenna has a bandwidth of 1.9 GHz, from 9.2 GHz to 11.1 GHz in the X-band, and 2.2 GHz, from 15.6 GHz to 16.9 GHz in the Ku band. The gain pattern is unidirectional in nature and has low side lobe levels of −24 dB and −21 dB at resonant frequencies. A noticeable difference that is greater than 20 dB between co-polarization and cross-polarization is observed. The dimensions of the antenna are 56 mm × 32 mm × 0.508 mm. There is an excellent similarity between the simulated and measured results.

In this article, a multi-resonance frequency scanning antenna with a Luneburg lens is designed. This antenna operates in the X-band and can achieve beam steering by changing the frequency in this band. The steering angle of the designed model is ±50 . This antenna is a good candidate for a wide range of telecommunication, automotive radar, and search radar applications. The advantage of this model over most of other works in this field is that just one multi resonant slot antenna in front of the Luneburg lens is used instead of several antennas and separate feed networks. This development leads to a compact structure with more straightforward and cost-effective fabrication. The antenna structure is based on a substrate integrated waveguide technology. Full-wave simulations are performed using the software of CST. The proposed model is designed and fabricated on Rogers RO4003C substrate with a height of 20 mils. A perforated Teflon sheet is designed and fabricated to approximate the inhomogeneous refractive index of the Luneburg lens.

Introduction. Slotted waveguide antenna arrays are widely used across centimeter- and millimeter-wavelength ranges due to numerous advantages, including their good directional properties, compact dimensions, flat shape, convenience of power supply, and high efficiency. At the same time, the current trend toward miniaturization of electronic devices and their integration requires new solutions, such as the development of devices based on wave-guides integrated into the substrate (Substrate Integrated Waveguide – SIW).Aim. To simulate a SIW-based slotted antenna with characteristics similar to those of a conventional antenna array based on a hollow metal waveguide.Materials and methods. The Ansys HFSS software was used to simulate the structure under study and to carry out electro-magnetic modeling and analysis of its directional properties. The energy method was used to determine the coordinates of longitudinal slots on the wide wall of the SIW waveguide. Macros were developed in the Visual Basic Scripting Edition language to automate routine operations for creating and deleting objects of the same type when constructing a model. The Arlon AD300C microwave material was used to manufacture a printed version of the SIW waveguide.Results. The process of developing a SIW slotted antenna was carried out in the following stages: construction of a reference model based on a hollow metal waveguide followed by creating a transition model based on a waveguide completely filled with a dielectric and the final SIW-based model. At each stage, the radiation pattern was monitored to obtain the directional properties of the SIW slotted antenna with characteristics identical to those of an antenna based on the reference hollow metal waveguide.Conclusion. A SIW slotted antenna with the required characteristics was simulated and tested in the Ansys HFSS environment. Such an antenna employs one of the main advantages of the SIW technology, i.e., the possibility of integrating all components on a single substrate, including antenna arrays, passive components, and active elements. This approach provides the basis for reducing the size of microwave devices and their miniaturization.
