<b>Effect of liming on micronutrient availability to soybean grown in soil under different lengths of time under no tillage

Abstract: ABSTRACT. The effect of liming on the availability of micronutrients to soybean cultivated during different numbers of years under no tillage (NT) was investigated. The treatments consisted of the number of years under NT (three, six, and nine years) and five rates of lime (0, 33, 67 and 100% of the amount calculated to raise soil base saturation to 70%) broadcast on soil surface plus the rate of 100% broadcast with incorporation in the 0-0.20 m layer of a clayey Red Oxisol. Soil and leaf samples were collecte… Show more

“…Liming is still one of the cheapest and most effective practices in soil acidity correction, and in Brazil there are vast limestone reserves distributed throughout the country. The use of liming raises the soil pH and base saturation (Rouphael et al, 2016;Zhou et al, 2020) besides releasing calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg) into the soil (Moreira, Prochnow, et al, 2017;Neto Mesper, Coneglian, Costa, Inoue, & Batista, 2019;Zhou et al, 2020). The increase in pH has a direct influence on the reduction of Al toxicity and increase of base saturation and hence can change the availability of nutrients in the soil for plants (Bonfim-Silva et al, 2019;Horst, Asher, Cakmak, Szulkiewicz, & Wissemeier, 1992;Miranda & Miranda, 2000).…”

“…Moreira, Prochnow, et al. (2017) found similar results when evaluating a set of soybean genotypes under high and low base saturation. The authors observed an increased net photosynthesis and stomatal conductance under higher base saturation.…”

“…Moreira, Prochnow, et al. (2017) evaluated the physiological performance of soybean genotypes cultivated at two base saturation levels (40% and 70%). Net photosynthesis, stomatal conductance and transpiration were higher in genotypes cultivated at high base saturation.…”
