Magnetic deep eutectic solvent-based ultrasound-assisted liquid–liquid microextraction for determination of hexanal and heptanal in edible oils followed by gas chromatography–flame ionization detection

Abstract: Use of a novel magnetic deep eutectic solvent (MDES), consisting of the inexpensive and simple components [choline chloride/para-cresol] [FeCl4] was examined using ultrasound-assisted liquid–liquid microextraction and back-extraction methods to determine hexanal and heptanal in edible oils.

“…The O-H vibration of m-cresol shifted to 3172 cm −1 in the FTIR of ES. These shifts might have been caused by the transfer of an electron from an oxygen atom to the hydrogen bond, leading to a decrease in the force constant [64,65]. When the ES was formed, the shift in O-H vibrations indicated hydrogen bonding between BTBACl and m-cresol.…”

“…eutectic solvents in the development of analytical methods. Specifically in the analysis of oils, the eutectic solvents have been used in the quantification of hexanal and heptanal [152], alkyl gallated [153], oxyprenylated phenylpropanoids [154], ferulic, caffeic and cinnamic acids [155], sesamol [156], tert-butylhydroquinone [157][158][159], chlorophenol, 2,3-dihydroxybenzoic acid, p-cresol, 4chlorophenol, 2,4-dichlorophenol and 2,4,6-trichlorophenol [160] and bisphenol A [161]. The eutectic solvents have been also applied in analytical methods to quantify organic compounds in tea, fruit juices and milk.…”

“…Sixteen NADESs prepared from non-toxic materials (e.g., essential amino acids) were successfully used for the green extraction of propolis including its biomarker artepillin C. Most importantly, the extracts of propolis based on NADES were much more stable over the months and could be consumed directly with no need for the separation of the bioactive compounds from NADES. In recent years, with the aim of rapid separation from samples, magnetic DESs comprised of inexpensive components [ChCl/para-cresol] [FeCl 4 ] were synthesized and utilized successfully in UALLME and back-extraction methods to identify hexanal and heptanal in edible oils [44]. The merit of this novel DES is that it is able to be magnetic recycled easily.…”
