Magnetism and Luminescence of a MOF with Linear Mn3 Nodes Derived from an Emissive Terthiophene-Based Imidazole Linker

Abstract: A new terthiophene-based imidazole luminophore 5,5’-(1H-thieno[3,4-d]imidazole-4,6-diyl)bis(thiophene-2-carboxylic acid) (TIBTCH2, 5) was synthesized in one step from previously reported 4,6-di(thiophen-2-yl)-1H-thieno[3,4-d]imidazole (DTTI, 4), and their photophysical properties were studied and compared accordingly. Under solvothermal conditions, reacting 5 with Mn(OAc)2 yielded a new three-dimensional metal-organic framework (MOF, 6) which was structurally defined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In 6, … Show more

“…The peaks located at 1533 cm −1 , 1424 cm −1 , 1381 cm −1 and 1247 cm −1 could correspond to the C=O symmetric stretching, C=O asymmetric stretching, C-OH bending vibrations, and C-OH deformation vibrations of free carboxylic groups of DHTP, respectively [ 34 , 35 ], which exhibited an obvious shift from the typical infrared absorption spectrum, implying the deprotonation of carboxylic acid group to coordinate with manganese or cerium. The peak at 1187 cm −1 was indicated to be C–H in-plane of benzene ring [ 36 , 37 ]. The four catalysts had different wave numbers in this range, indicating that the coordination environment of the organic ligand DHTP in the MCDx structure changed at a certain extent [ 38 ].…”

“…HOFs have attracted a significant deal of attention especially because of their broad applications, ranging from chemical sensing [ 6 ] and bioimaging [ 7 , 8 ] to lighting [ 9 ] and 3D optical storage [ 10 , 11 ]. The metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent-organic frameworks (COFs) are usually connected by coordination bonds or covalent bonds between atoms and show relatively high stabilities [ 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 ], while the HOFs are linked by weak non-covalent interactions, such as hydrogen bonds and π−π stacking interactions, and exhibit relatively low stabilities [ 21 , 22 , 23 , 24 , 25 ]. For HOFs, the solvent guests play important roles in the construction of the supermolecular network system.…”

“…The research being conducted on reticular structures that are comprised of the linkage of metal nodes and organic linkers to form crystalline, meso-porous, metal organic frameworks (MOFs), has significantly increased in the last three decades. MOFs have found extensive applications in areas such as catalysis [ 1 ], energy storage like lithium- [ 2 ] and sodium-ion batteries [ 3 ], super capacitors [ 4 ], electro-catalysts in water splitting [ 5 ], hydrogen generation from alcohols [ 6 ], hydrogen storage [ 7 ], water harvesting [ 8 ], CO 2 sequestration [ 9 ], gas separation [ 10 ], luminescence [ 11 ], sensors [ 12 ] etc. MOFs are intrinsically modular in nature, which gives researchers excellent control over structure and porosity.…”
