Magnonic band structure in CoFeB/Ta/NiFe meander-shaped magnetic bilayers

Abstract: In this work, we investigate the spin-wave propagation in three-dimensional nanoscale CoFeB/Ta/NiFe meander structures fabricated on a structured SiO2/Si substrate. The magnonic band structure has been experimentally determined by wavevector-resolved Brillouin light scattering (BLS) spectroscopy and a set of stationary modes interposed by two dispersive modes of Bloch type have been identified. The results could be understood by micromagnetic and finite element simulations of the mode distributions in both rea… Show more

“…Magnon networks (MN), consisting of coupled systems of spin microwaveguides based on yttrium iron garnets (YIG) films, can be used for information processing and at the same time provide the process integration with the existing architecture of CMOS [2]. For instance, in the work [3] it was shown, that three-dimensional (3D) magnon crystal in a shape of meander can provide propagation of spin waves in all spatial dimensions.…”

“…Curvilinear magnonics is part of the rapidly developing research field of 3D magnonics. [117][118][119][120][121] It relies on the use of 3D objects and offers the possibility to develop novel concepts, phenomena, devices and techniques as outlined in the 2021 Magnonics Roadmap. [122] Recently, curvilinear magnetism of nanowires and narribbons put forth a number of concepts for applications in curvilinear magnonics.…”

“…2), leading to moderate values of chirp detectable reliably at L larger than 10 µm only. To make the effect more prominent at smaller distances, it is possible to use magnonic crystals, multilayered structures, or their hybrids [43][44][45] with a high dispersion of the group velocity of SWs. On the flipside, the geometrical design of the waveguide paves the way to suppress the dispersion altogether 46,47 .…”
