Maresin-1 suppresses imiquimod-induced skin inflammation by regulating IL-23 receptor expression

Abstract: The anti-inflammatory effect of omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids has been confirmed in various inflammatory disease models. Maresin-1 (MaR1) is a lipid mediator derived from the omega-3 fatty acid docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) that has displayed strong anti-inflammatory effects in various inflammatory disease models. However, the effect of topical MaR1 on cutaneous inflammation remains unclear. Therefore, we initially examined the anti-inflammatory effects of topical Maresin-1 using an imiquimod (IMQ)-induced … Show more

“…For example, resolvin E1 and resolvin E3 alleviated allergic airway inflammation by inhibiting the production of IL-17A ( 19 , 20 ). Maresin 1 reduced IL-17A production by γδ TCRmid + and CD4 + T cells in imiquimod-induced skin inflammation ( 47 ). Thus, our findings indicated that IL-17A might get involved in the alternative function of MCTR1 on LPS-induced cardiac injury.…”

“…The impact of bioactive substances present in HRO on pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory mediators implicated in psoriasis, has been previously studied (16)(17)(18)(19). Although the mechanism of action of HRO in psoriasis is unknown, lipid mediators derived from DHA have demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects in animal disease models, including suppression of IL-17A (20).…”

“…EPA suppresses the production of TNF-α and IL-1β, and inflammatory lipid mediators, such as PGE2 and LTB4 [ 57 ]. Patients with psoriasis exhibit a lower intake of ω-3 fatty acids compared with healthy controls [ 10 ], and the metabolites of ω-3 fatty acids, resolvin E1, resolvin D1, and Maresin 1, exert anti-inflammatory actions in imiquimod-induced psoriasis-like skin inflammation in mice [ 58 , 59 , 60 ]. Impaired skin inflammation was also observed in approximately 80% of patients with psoriasis using fish oil supplements [ 61 ].…”
