Current demographic trends indicate a significant increase in older people (above 65 years) in the world's population, posing a major risk for the development of dementia. A previous study indicates that about 6% of the world population is suffering from dementia (Prince et al., 2013). Recent estimates by the Alzheimer's Association reveal that globally, 55 million people have dementia and every year, more than 10 million people develop this deadly disease. This number is predicted to increase by 88 million in the year 2050 (Alzheimer's Association, 2019). This disease is more prevalent in Americans. Currently, 5.8 million Americans of all ages were living with Alzheimer's FIGURE 1 | Annual expenditure, including health care, long-term care, and hospice care for people with dementia.
